About This Hackathon
<p>Since the inception of printed newspapers, every piece of news that made it to the page was assigned a specific section. Over the years, while newspapers evolved in various aspects, such as the type of ink and paper used, categorizing news into distinct sections remained consistent. This tradition has been carried forward not only in print but also in digital versions of newspapers.</p><p>Newspaper articles cover various topics, from politics to sports to entertainment, and beyond. For a long time, the task of categorizing these articles into sections was done manually. However, with technological advancements, this process can now be easily automated.</p><p>In this hackathon, <strong>Data Science</strong> and <strong>Machine Learning</strong> enthusiasts will leverage <strong>Natural Language Processing (NLP)</strong> techniques to predict the genre or category of a news article based on its content.</p><h3>Dataset Overview:</h3><ul><li><strong>Training Set Size</strong>: 7,628 records</li><li><strong>Test Set Size</strong>: 2,748 records</li></ul><h3>Features:</h3><ol><li><strong>STORY</strong>:<br>A segment of the article's main content intended for publication as news.</li><li><strong>SECTION</strong>:<br>The genre or category the story belongs to. There are four distinct sections, labeled as follows:<ul><li><strong>Politics</strong>: 0</li><li><strong>Technology</strong>: 1</li><li><strong>Entertainment</strong>: 2</li><li><strong>Business</strong>: 3</li></ul></li></ol><p>Participants will use this dataset to build models that can accurately classify news stories into their respective sections.</p>
